Haiti Rescue Trip

Join the movement and travel with us to Haiti. Volunteers will experience a life changing experience when volunteering with us to help our dogs. Volunteers can support our mission trip in many ways and will feel the rewards of saving a street dog. Volunteers can help by feeding, bathing and walking our dogs, and assisting in our clinics and with administration.

Purpose of Rescue Trips

All mission trips are intended to assist in rescue missions and care for the street dogs of Haiti. Each volunteer trip will have a specific focus and mission from start to finish. Trips will be planned to engage volunteers with on the ground tasks while working with the strays or at a shelter location. Mission trips will be impactful and will enhance the goals and immediate needs of the organization in Haiti.

Rescue trips are designed to care for our dogs by way of medical services, shelter needs, transporting, and meeting the basic needs of the dogs in our care. Trips are designed to engage volunteers with on ground task while working with our dogs.

Types of Mission Trips:

Rescue Mission trips will be 5-7 day stay trips as volunteers will be in country to travel and return with a dog to US on the plane (if permissible). Volunteers will be given information on their assigned dog to properly accommodate the dog during the flight. Some dogs will travel in cabin with the volunteer while other dogs will travel cargo. This is based on the size of the dog and crate and other airline guidelines.
Shelter Missions will engage volunteer workers at our shelter sites firsthand. Volunteers will work with rescue dogs and staff. Volunteers will assist in duties such as: bathing dogs, feeding dogs, walking dogs, training dogs and spending time with the dogs.
Feed the Stray Missions trips are designed for volunteers to assist in feeding stray dogs in the assigned community or territory in which the worker is in. Volunteers will be accompanied by an FTS worker who will take lead in feeding the strays with the volunteers.
Spay & Neuter Missions are designed for volunteers to assist with medical/mobile clinics. Non-medical volunteers will assist with logistics, administration aspect and coordination of the clinic with the general public.
Census Mission are missions that are used to quantify the number of dogs per area that are strays.
Special Project Mission are designed on need basis to serve unexpected needs or may be incorporated within a mission trip above.

Rescue Trip are based on volunteers traveling to Haiti and returning with a dog to US (if permissible). Volunteers will be given information on their assigned dog to properly accommodate the dog during the flight. Some dogs will travel in the cabin with the volunteer while other dogs will travel cargo. This is based on the size of the dog and crate and airline guidelines.

Feed the Stray Trip trips are designed for volunteers to assist in feeding stray dogs in the assigned community or territory in which the worker is in. Volunteers will be accompanied by an FTS worker who will take lead in feeding the strays with the volunteers.
Veterinary Medical Trips include Spay/Neuter services, rabies vaccines, and medical care for injured dogs and dogs who have urgent needs. Mobile clinics will be set up to see the strays and/or local residents dogs needing medical attention.
Non-medical volunteers will assist with logistics and the administration aspect of the clinic with the general public.
Census Trips are missions that are used to quantify the number of dogs per area that are strays.
Special Project Trips are designed on need basis to serve unexpected needs or may be incorporated within a mission trip above.

In-Country Volunteers

In-country volunteer will play a different role vs. out-of-state volunteers. Each in country volunteers will be assigned a specific task based on the need of the organization and the time of year. Become A Flight Volunteer

If you are travelling from Haiti and would like to help us by bringing a dog back this program allows you to help rehome our strays. We ask that you contact us to coordinate travel. You will only be required to add the dog to your reservation as we will cover the pet fee. We will coordinate all necessary paperwork for travel for the dog. Airlines typically allow one to two dogs per traveler as checked in pets. Become a HSDP Ambassador

An ambassador is someone who acts as a representative or promoter of a specified activity. We ask those who are interested in supporting us as ambassadors meet with our leadership team to develop or propose a plan for how you plan on representing the organization. Representation can mean many things depending on your location, resources, and social media influencing. We will work with ambassador candidates by setting up a plan after the candidate has responded to questions to determine how s/he can best represent HSDP.
